Healthy and Unhealthy Coping Strategies
When you’re feeling low or overwhelmed, it can be hard to know how to cope. Even doing one positive thing every day can help your mood.
Healthy coping strategies include…
- Distracting yourself e.g. listening to music or watching tv
- Meditation or mindfulness activities
- Physical or active activities inside or outside the home e.g. going for a walk, playing sport or dancing to your favourite song
- Staying connected to people in person or online
- Maintaining routines e.g. keeping to your normal meal and bed times
- Talking to someone you trust
Feelings can be hard to make sense of. You might not even understand how you are feeling or feel you are able to describe it to someone. But the most important thing is to talk to somebody.
If you do not feel able to talk to a friend or family member you can always speak to a member of staff at school.
