Former Parliament Hill Student Takes on Mount Kilimanjaro for Amnesty International
A former Parliament Hill School student is preparing to take on one of the world’s most iconic climbs in support of human rights.
Maisy Zagar, who attended the school from Year 7 through to Year 13, is now in her first year at the University of Oxford, where she is studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics. This August, she will climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise £5,000 for Amnesty International.
The funds will support Amnesty International’s global work defending people facing injustice and human rights abuses.
Alongside her studies, Maisy is already contributing to this field, working as a researcher with charities, with a particular focus on issues surrounding sexual violence. This experience has strengthened her commitment to supporting organisations that protect human rights and advocate for those most in need.
Reflecting on her time at Parliament Hill School, Maisy credits the school community with helping to shape her passion for social justice.
“Parli was such a huge part of my life,” she said. “I was lucky to have teachers who encouraged me to care about social issues and to take action. That has had a lasting impact on the path I’ve taken.”
Maisy’s upcoming challenge will test both her physical and mental endurance. She has been training alongside her degree, building strength and stamina through regular workouts, including endurance sessions and climbing practice with a weighted pack.
“Kilimanjaro is going to be a serious challenge,” she added. “But that’s part of what makes it feel worthwhile.”
Maisy is inviting support from the school community and beyond.
“I’d be incredibly grateful for any donation, no matter the size. More importantly, it’s going towards Amnesty’s vital work supporting people facing injustice around the world.”
