Parliament Hill Student Selected for NASA Following National Win

Parliament Hill School is celebrating an outstanding achievement as Lily has secured a fully funded place on the UK team for the International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC) at NASA in Florida in July 2026. She is one of around 20 students selected nationally.
This follows the school’s recent success at the UK Space Design Challenge National Finals at Imperial College London earlier this month, where Year 10 and 11 students won the competition as part of the “Sapien” team after an intensive 24-hour challenge to design a self-sustaining moon base. Students representing Parliament Hill School: Yasmin, Defne, Frieda, Lily, Jayda, Megan, Paromita, Vesa and Lucia.
Lily said: "I was completely shocked when I found out, I could not believe it. It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!”
NASA-linked competitions are among the most competitive in the world. The annual NASA Space Apps Challenge attracts thousands of participants globally, with the 2025 competition selecting just 10 winning teams from over 11,500 project submissions. Projects are judged through multiple rounds on creativity, collaboration and use of real NASA data, highlighting the scale and prestige of opportunities like these.
Mr Papapostolou, PHS teacher, said:
“We are incredibly proud of our students. They showed confidence, creativity and resilience throughout.”
This achievement reflects Parliament Hill School’s commitment to excellence and its success in preparing students to compete and succeed on a global stage.

Crystal is competing at the Hip Hop International (HHI) World Championships this July

We are incredibly proud to share some exciting news about one of our talented students, Crystal.
Crystal has officially qualified to compete at the HHI World Championships in Arizona in July 2026, where she will represent the UK on the world stage with her team, IMD Legion.
Her team earned their place at Worlds through outstanding achievements:
🥇 1st Place – Mega Crew
🥈 2nd Place – Mini Crew (X Legion)
🥈 2nd Place – Legacy Varsity
These incredible results have secured Crystal the honour of competing internationally at one of the most prestigious dance competitions in the world.
Crystal is a dedicated and hardworking student who trains daily while balancing her academic studies. Her commitment, discipline, resilience, and passion for dance are truly admirable, and she represents both her team and our school with pride.
This will also be her first time travelling to America, making the opportunity even more special. Competing at world level is a remarkable achievement, and we are so proud of everything she has accomplished.
This Feb Crystal raised funds to help cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and competition fees.
Just in a few months Crystal will proudly represent her team, London, and the UK on a global stage.
Congratulations Crystal on this outstanding achievement!

Arkwright Engineering Scholarship
In 2022 some product design students were approached with the opportunity to apply for an Arkwright engineering scholarship. This scholarship includes many opportunities within the engineering world, mentoring and financial benefits for both scholars and their schools. We found out this month that myself and one other student were successful in our applications and we will be attending the award ceremony for this next month. The application process in which we had to go through to gain this award was very rigorous and was composed of many parts. We had to do an online form, a written aptitude exam and finally, once we successfully passed through these two stages, an online interview with engineers from Arkwright. This process was extremely useful to those who applied as it mirrors many aspects of UCAS applications and helped us familiarise ourselves with this process in preparation for next year. Finding out I had been awarded this scholarship was such an amazing feeling, and both, myself and Carmen, are extremely grateful for this incredible opportunity.

During their time at Parliament Hill every student takes part in the exciting First Give Programme, designed to build a stronger community and upskill future leaders. First Give offers students the opportunity to research and raise awareness of a social issue of their choice and then present their project to their peers, school and local community. Students compete against each other in Teams to win £1000 for their chosen charity by delivering professional presentations showcasing their creativity, public speaking skills and passion for social justice.
The programme makes a huge impact on our local community, not only through fundraising but also by raising the profiles of smaller and local charities. The most recent winners of the project were interviewed by the Ham & High newspaper who were most impressed with their commitment to social action. They were also so inspiring that First Give have now completed a case study on their project which takes pride of place on their website.
