Parliament Hill School for Girls - Career Carousel Inspires Year 9 Students
London, 20th Jan 2026
Year 9 students at Parliament Hill School took part in this year’s Career Carousel, an established and much-valued event designed to help students make informed decisions about their GCSE options and future pathways.
Throughout the carousel, students met a wide range of parents and volunteers who generously shared their time, insights and personal career journeys. The event highlighted the breadth of opportunity open to young people today, with professionals representing the public sector, people operations, business and legal affairs, architecture and interior design, television production, cyber security, design leadership and strategic communications.
Students used each session to ask thoughtful and perceptive questions, gaining valuable insight into daily working life, required qualifications and the personal qualities needed for success. Jean, year 9 parent, noted the students’ ambition, saying, “They were very curious and intelligent – and around 70% already have an idea of what they want to do in the future.”
Mr George, one of the parents, praised the students’ curiosity, saying: “The questions from students were excellent – not just about the job itself, but what my day actually looks like. My advice to the girls is to stay open-minded, try different things, and most importantly, enjoy what you do. The job you end up doing may not even exist yet.”
The school community played a central role in making the event a success. Ms Walczyk, who volunteered her time, explained, “I wanted to help because my daughter will be taking part in this in a couple of years. It’s important to support the girls and give them advice that will really help them.”
The energy and enthusiasm of the day left a lasting impression on everyone involved. Mr Gardiner reflected, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much enthusiasm before – the time flew by.”
Reflecting on the importance of the event, Aaron, a T-level Marketing student from LaSWAP said, “Not long ago I was in their shoes, trying to work out which subjects to choose. The girls asked so many great questions and I was glad I could support them.” His words echoed the purpose of the day: helping students feel confident as they begin shaping their futures.
Events such as the Career Carousel are a vital part of life at Parliament Hill School for Girls, helping students look ahead with confidence, curiosity and ambition. As the girls begin planning the next stage of their educational journey, the conversations and connections made during the day will continue to guide and inspire them.
